Lobster Feast review

Generous contributions from countless volunteers made this year’s annual Lobster Feast a success. There wasn’t a cloud in sight as guests sat outside and enjoyed nearly two pounds of fresh Atlantic lobsters.

The partying started early with the whitesail class jumping off the dock for a swim in the sweltering late afternoon. Frolicking in the water was revisited late in the night, check out the pictures

The talented band, Dear Reader, that instructor George Chenery is a member of, played classic songs by Jimi Hendrix as well as modern hits by The Black Keys and many more.

Guests this year were treated to Malpeque oysters, shucked by Tom Jehu, Pierre Ross and Almir Taveres. Alexis Mantell, Beata Gentere, and Katherine Browne organized the crowd wonderfully to make sure everyone got their lobster quickly. Robert MacDonald masterfully built the fire that he and Frank Loritz cooked the fresh Atlantic lobsters on. Clearly, cooperation and teamwork by all the volunteers (not just the ones mentioned) kept this tradition a success.

After dinner, the deck was transformed into a dance floor and everyone let loose to dance and enjoy the music. As guests danced the night away there were some brave souls who jumped off the dock to enjoy a midnight swim.

Those who had referred to this year’s Lobster Feast as “the major outer harbour social event of the season” were right in their predictions. Can’t wait until Lobster Feast 2012!

Check out the pictures of the event. and more pictures on facebook

RCYC regatta recap

The winds on Saturday were about 10 knots from the East with a brief lull of 2 knots at the later half of one race. Four races were held in lots of chop and some waves.
Sunday brought more wind with 8 to 15 knots from the NW and 3 races.

After Day 1 our own team of Allan Measor and Richard Piercey were in the lead with a one point advantage over 3 time world champions Barney Harris and David Byron. On day two they were still within one point before the last race and it was all about who would come out ahead in that one race. Barney did it again and won the regatta. Almost beaten by a Jtown team.

14 full Jtown and partial Jtown teams took part.
(bold text are Jtown members)

Docks In

Saturday April 9th,

2011Don’t let the past weekend of chilly weather fool you; spring is here and it’s time to get our sailing season started!

Every year, JTown has a Docks-In day where club members come together to get the club ready for another fantastic season of sailing; we work, eat, listen to music and catch up on what we’ve all been doing in our non-sailing lives.

This is the eagerly awaited party where we:

  • assemble the boats
  • tidy the grounds
  • clean up the club house (wait till you see how much it has changed!)
  • lower the docks into the water

It’s a big job, so the more hands we have on deck (pun intended), the better. And to reward those who come down to lend a hand, our social team prepares a large brunch breakfast with coffee, hot chocolate and tea.

This is a rain or shine event starting at 8am and going till the job is done! For those helping with the docks, the crane will arrive at our club at 10 am at the latest, so please come early enough to make sure we are prepared!

Clubhouse Facelift

Handy with a paintbrush? Boy, do we have a job for you!
It’s about time the JTown clubhouse got a makeover, and we need a team of volunteers to help us clean the place up, then slap a fresh coat of paint (or two) on the walls.

We are planning the work party for this weekend (March 12th and 13th) to get the whole job done. Work will begin around 9am both days and continue until our bodies can’t take anymore! Saturday will concentrate mostly on cleaning and prepping the room for painting, while Sunday will focus on painting!

Our lovely social team Alexis Mantell and Michael Leies will be providing hot drinks, lunch and snacks to keep our bodies fuelled. There will also be a hot fire to keep us warm, some music and of course, your fellow members to keep you company! All you need to bring is yourself and perferably a set of clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

In addition, it would be great if people could donate some items such as:

  • paint trays
  • brushes- rollers & roller extension rods
  • painter tape
  • TSP
  • Rags & Scrubber sponges
  • drop cloths

If you are able to help, please sign your name on this spreadsheet. If you have any questions, feel free to contact either myself at Carley Fort at email hidden; JavaScript is required, or Jeff Gerrits at email hidden; JavaScript is required.
Many thanks!
Carley & Jeff
